John R. Chirico, 100, died on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at St. Mary's Hospital.
He was born in Amsterdam and was the son of the late Augustino and Loretta Marinelli Chirico.
John was a graduate of Amsterdam Public Schools and served his country faithfully and honorably in WW II. John was employed by the US Postal Service as a letter carrier in 1954 and put together a 30-year career with that organization. He has been a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers for over half a century.
After retiring from the Postal Service, he worked as a mason on several local construction projects.
John was a long-term member of the Port Jackson Bocci Club, the Southside Veterans Association and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church where his multitude of volunteer efforts to assist that congregation over the years have much been admired and most appreciated. John is Survived by nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by a son, John Chirico, Jr.
Calling hours will be Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 12:00-1:00 pm. A Prayer Service at the funeral home will follow with the Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis E.V. as Celebrant. Interment will be at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
