Mr. John Hogan Claiborne, IV, age 82 of LaFollette, TN passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. He was born on November 27, 1942 to the late John Hogan Claiborne, III, and Lucille (Dossett) Claiborne. Mr. Claiborne dedicated his life to education and was a career College Professor. He earned his Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Mathematics and Philosophy from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Mr. Claiborne served at many colleges and universities including Louisiana State University, Marymount University, Grambling State University, and Pellissippi State Community College. He was an accomplished self-taught piano player, enjoyed reading and playing tennis, and deeply loved his cats. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by former spouse, Lisa Claiborne.
He is survived by his son, John Hogan Claiborne, V, and wife, Beth, devoted friend and companion, Gloria, best friend, Victor Byrd, and countless extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 15, 2025 from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Walters Funeral Home Chapel with a Memorial Service to be held at 12:00 PM.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to: Friends of Campbell County Tennessee Animals; 749 Towe String Road, Jacksboro, TN 37757. Walters Funeral Home of LaFollette is honored to be serving the family of Mr. John Hogan Claiborne, IV.
