Publish in a newspaper

John R. Cleary, age 74, of Pittsburgh, PA passed away peacefully on October 25th, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glenville, NY on February 28, 1951, son of the late Robert Cleary and Doris Miller Cleary. Beloved husband for 51 years of Kathy A. Bashaw Cleary. Loving father of Andrew R. Cleary (Ashley) and Elizabeth T. Dove (Matthew). Brother of Dori Dillard and the late Susan Schell. Dear grandfather (Pa) of Benjamin and Kassidy Cleary and Charley and Matthew "MJ" Dove.

John was a graduate of Kent State University in the field of architecture. He was a survivor of the 1970 Kent State Shootings. This experience shaped his lifelong commitment to perseverance, family, reflection, and peace.

John lived a life filled with creativity, kindness, and devotion to those he loved. A talented architect he spent his career helping to design spaces that blended beauty and purpose, leaving a lasting mark on his community through his work and generosity of spirit.

John found great joy in spending time with his family and enjoying the outdoors- especially his visits to Hidden Valley Ski Resort, and summers spent at Schroon Lake NY, where he made many cherished memories. He was an avid skier and dedicated over thirty years volunteering as a national ski patroller.

He loved watching sunsets at the closing of each day, finding peace and reflection in their quiet beauty. We will always think of him when the sky turns golden at the days end.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at Bakerstown United Methodist Church on November 8th, at 11:00 am. Rev. Keith Dunn will be officiating. Private interment in Allegheny County Memorial Park at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, you can send donations to Bakerstown United Methodist Church, www.bakerstownumc.org.
