Gregg Lee Mossberger, 76, died on October 27, 2025, at home, surrounded by family in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born on April 6, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, to John and Martha (Browne) Mossberger. He earned an Ed.S in Educational Administration from Kent State University, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Wayne State University, and was an alum of the University of Illinois. He and his wife, Karen (Pavlik) Mossberger, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They had two daughters, Heather Mossberger and Lauren (Mossberger) Marietta.
Gregg started as a medical technologist in chemistry and later became a teacher and administrator in math and science. He was a lifelong learner and an enthusiast for what he taught, often marveling at the beauty of equations. He enjoyed logic puzzles, chess, sci-fi fantasy, nature shows, and classical music. He was also a fan of baseball, basketball, and tennis. He was passionate about social justice and served as president of a hospital union local in Detroit. Gregg battled Parkinson's for over 20 years and was an advocate for disability rights, serving on the Phoenix Mayor's Commission on Disability Issues.
Gregg is survived by his wife Karen, daughters Heather and Lauren, son-in-law John Marietta and Bunny the cat, as well as many nieces, nephews, and in-laws in his extended family. He is pre-deceased by his mother and father, brother Douglas Mossberger, and sister Judith (LaBelle) Lieske.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 8 at Samaritan Funeral and Cremation Services, 1505 E. McDowell Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85006. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center through Barrow Neurological Foundation at https://giveto.supportbarrow.org.
