Tribute
John Clees, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on June 29, 2023, in Spokane, Washington, shortly after being diagnosed with colon cancer. He was born on September 14, 1932, in Toppenish, Washington, to John N. and Ella May (Pease) Clees.
In 1952, John graduated from high school in Onalaska, Washington. On October 15, 1955, he married the love of his life, Lorraine E. Wall, and they shared more than six decades of marriage until her passing on March 7, 2018. They were blessed with three children: Kurt Clees, Debra Bosworth of Spokane, Washington, and Natalie McCarty of Liberty Lake, Washington.
Carlton, Washington was home for the past 57 years. There, he was an orchardist, farmer, and rancher. Prior to settling in Carlton, the family resided in Seattle from 1955 to 1966.
John served his country with honor and dedication as a Corporal in the U.S. Army at Camp Hanford, Washington, from December 4, 1952, to December 3, 1954. He continued his service in the reserves for eight years, concluding on January 30, 1961.
John possessed a curious and inventive mind, finding great joy in mechanical pursuits and the simple pleasures of picnics. He was known for his sharp wit and "one-liners," bringing laughter and joy to those around him. His German ingenuity was a source of pride and inspiration for his family and friends.
John's dedication to education and community was evident through his role as the Pateros School Board President. He was admired for his wisdom, strength, and unwavering commitment to his values.
John leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his son, Kurt Clees; daughters, Debra Bosworth and Natalie McCarty; sister, Mary Chase of Longview, Washington; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lorraine Clees, his sister Ella May, his father John N. Clees, and his mother, Ella May (Pease) Clees.
A graveside service to honor and remember John will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at 11:15 a.m. at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery, located at 21702 W Espanola Rd, Medical Lake, WA 99022.

Sending Heartfelt condolences to the family. My dad Clay met John years ago at work and they became fast friends for life back in the 1950's Our families have remained close for all these years. There are many fond memories of time spent with John and his family over the years that will remain in our hearts forever. We have spent many special occasions together the last of which was my brother Vance's and his wife Dani's wedding in 2012. Dad and John spoke on the phone many times providing support to each other over the years. In Sept of 2018 Debra brought John to visit mom and dad in Renton which was the last time they visited in person. We will miss John as he was the kind of man who was hardworking , honest and a wonderful father and friend. My dad passed away three years ago and now they will be reunited in eternity along with Johns wife who passed in 2018 Loraine . I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to know John and Loraine and their wonderful family. May God's Peace and Understanding comfort them as they lay John to his Heavenly rest.
