John Arlen Clement passed away on May 10, 2025 at the age of 86, surrounded by his wife and five children.
He was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on September 2, 1938 to Victor Floyd and Belva Heileson Clement and grew up on a farm in Roberts, Idaho.
John served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the West Spanish American Mission from 1958-1961, laboring in Arizona, California and northern Mexico. On his mission he learned to speak Spanish fluently, a skill he enjoyed and maintained for the rest of his life. He attended Ricks College, Weber State University, and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Communications from Brigham Young University. He also honorably served his country in the United States Army Reserve from 1963-1968.
After graduating, he was working in Salt Lake City when he met his future wife, Judy Rae Cox, in M-Men and Gleaners. They were sealed in the Manti Temple on September 1, 1967, one day before his birthday.
He began working for Conoco as a Sales Representative in 1969, a career that took his family from Denver, Colorado to Albuquerque and the Four Corners area of New Mexico, and finally to Missoula, Montana. After retirement, John and Judy moved to Springville Utah, before settling in Layton, Utah in 2021. In each location, they made lifelong friendships that John and his family cherished.
Faith was an essential part of John’s life. He remained devoted to church service serving as a bishop, counselor in a stake presidency, as a branch president at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, and as an ordinance worker at the Provo Temple.
John enjoyed a range of hobbies, but his greatest joy came from gardening. In each place he lived, he spent countless hours tending his plants and trees. He took great pride in growing fruits and vegetables for his family. He was known for his fudge, snickerdoodles and a rather original spaghetti sauce recipe. He had a life-long passion for cars and could name the precise year and model of any vehicle from his youth. John was also known for his mischievous sense of humor and he loved pulling pranks on family and friends.
John was a loving father of five children, eleven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. His family, including spouses and grandchildren, is as follows. John (Kimberly) and children, Kristin, Jessica, Joshua, and Jordan. Stephanie (Shane) McKinnon and daughter Mari. Michael (Melissa) and children Cody, Alexandria, and Elizabeth. Corey (Despina) and Kami (Jimmy) Blanchard and children, Hailey, Hannah, and Mae.
John was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Belva Clement, and siblings, Velma, Ronald, and Ross, and grandson, Joshua Clement.
He is survived by his wife Judy, and his children, their spouses, ten grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren and his brothers Brent and Nolan.
