John Conley Obituary

John Charles Conley, 65, of Tipton and formerly of West Branch, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Harmony Nursing Home in Cedar Rapids.

John was born September 16, 1959, in Iowa City, the son of Francis Joseph "John" and Mable Louise (Peterman) Conley. He graduated from West Branch High School in 1978, where he was active in football and wrestling, competing in the Iowa State Wrestling Tournament as a freshman heavyweight.

John proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp. and later earned his associate degree in Graphic Design from Kirkwood Community College. Following his service, he was employed with TruArt Color Graphics in Iowa City.

He enjoyed gardening, collecting comic books, and was a gifted artist. He also had a deep love for animals, rescuing several cats and dogs over the years, including his most recent companion, Billy Jack.

Survivors include three siblings: Don Strong (Doris Coiner) of Olin, Iowa; Doreen (David) Lechner of Clear Lake, Iowa; and Bill (Melissa) Conley of Alexandria, Ohio; nieces and nephews: Travis (Gina) Strong, Betty Strong, Donnie (Megan) Strong, Jeffery Strong, Curtis (Nikki) Strong, Joseph Conley, and Chad (Deb) Lechner; as well as several great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother David Strong, and an infant sister.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date, with inurnment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Cedar Valley.
