Steve Curtis

John Steven Curtis, our Warrior and Hero, of Springville, Utah, passed away August 30, 2025 at the age of 81. He fought for life until his last breath surrounded by his family in his favorite place, his home in Hobble Creek Canyon. Steve was born August 7, 1944 to Jack and Klea Merritt Curtis in Provo, Utah.

His happy childhood began on the dirt road of 1300 east in Springville. He had a magical childhood roaming the hills and fields with his neighborhood pals. When it was time for school, Steve cried everyday as his mom dropped him at Kindergarten. After graduating from Springville High School in 1962, he attended college at Orange County Jr. College in southern California, University of Utah and Brigham Young University.

Steve began his service as a Reservist in the Army National Guard in 1965 and was honorably discharged in 2002. This fostered his great love, devotion and pride for this country.

When Steve pulled up in his black Volkswagen, red plaid shirt and perfectly styled hair it was love at first sight for Vicky, for Steve it took a little longer. They were married in 1967 in Provo and later sealed in the Provo Utah Temple in 1980. Their exemplary marriage has been a beautiful love story for 58 years and will last unto eternity. They were destined soulmates from the first hello. Every day was an adventure. A travel bag was packed and kept in their car for a spontaneous road trip. After traveling, exploring and sightseeing their favorite place to be was home, building their beautiful family.

Steve was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He and Vicky served as Military Relations Missionaries in the Virginia, Chesapeake Mission. They had the best companions.

To his family and others he was the greatest example of resilience, courage, perseverance and positive attitude. Although he was challenged with physical trials he never complained and taught us, “Life won’t always stay the same but it will always be good.”

Steve’s philosophy has always been, “Life was never about the destination but about the journey.”

Steve was survived by the love of his life, Vicky; 4 amazing children, D’Dee (R.D.) Rex, Ste any (Scott) McCausland, Mandy (Je Shockley, and Seth (Alice) Curtis; 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; his siblings, Charlotte (Dee) Thatcher, Paul (Mariam), Clark (Paula) and Ann (Ray) Bartholomew; and his cherished hummingbirds.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers.

A funeral to honor Steve’s life will be held Thursday, September 4th at 11:00 a.m. at the Hobble Creek, Hidden Valley 11th Ward church building, 2379 East 1100 South in Springville. The visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 3rd, from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Wheeler Mortuary in Springville. There will not be a visitation before the funeral on Thursday.

Interment will be at the Springville Historic City Cemetery.

The family expresses gratitude to to the many people who cared for Steve and for his earthly ministering angels; Robert, Jake, and Alexus.
