Katheryn Darleen Kunze, 80, of Springville Utah, passed away peacefully surrounded by her daughters, Thursday, August 14th, 2025. She was born Oct 2nd, 1944, in Murray Utah, to Delpha Venetta Jones and Ray LaVoy Clayson of Spanish Fork Utah. She married Douglas H. Kunze on September 3rd, 1964. He preceded her in death on July 4th, 2012.
Darleen graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1962. During her senior year she completed cosmetology school and began a 50+ year career in the field. Highlights include winning multiple awards including The Jerry Green award for Hamilton Beauty Supplies Keys to Success in 1968 and Educator of the Year in 1996 from Framesi and Normax. She served as a board member of The Utah Cosmetology Association and owned and operated her own salon until 2022. Darleen was also an accomplished seamstress, sewing clothing for her family and friends including wedding gowns. She was a furniture upholsterer and helped create beautiful custom furniture working for Phil Hansen Upholstery for over 30 years. Darleen had many interests, she loved to golf, bowl, garden, ride horses, design and create home improvements, cook, bake, camp, garden, farm and more. There is nothing she couldn’t do. She stayed close to her high school friends and they enjoyed spending time at the cabin together. Above all this she was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and was a role model of strength and confidence to her family.
Darleen is survived by her 5 daughters, Karmyn Kunze Swan (Darin), Kamile Kunze Stoker (Todd), Karla Kunze Palfreyman (Travis), Kathi Kunze Spencer (Jerald) and Karrah Kunze; 18 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday August 20th, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Wheeler & Sundberg Mortuary, located at 211 E. 200 S. Springville Utah. A viewing for friends and family will be held the same day at Wheeler Mortuary prior to the Service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at the Springville City Cemetery following the Service.
