John William Davis Sr. (known as Bill) of Sykesville, Maryland passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025, after battling cancer for more than a year at his home.
Bill was born on February 24, 1938, in Carroll County Maryland to Truman Davis and Virginia (Mom-mom) Nichols Davis. Bill served in the Army, Private first class, during the Korean war. He was a master carpenter who owned his own construction business, working in the local homebuilding industry for more than 50 years. He enjoyed NASCAR, baseball, fishing, boating, horse races and golfing, but most of all he loved to play fastpitch softball, managing his own team for many years in the Carroll County league. Bill retired from playing after 42 years and in 2012 he received a Hall of Fame ring, which he wore proudly.
If you knew Bill, you knew that he lived his life to its fullest and had no regrets on how he chose to live his life. He was never without a large wad of cash in his pocket and a story to tell. Never one to sit still, he was always happiest when he was surrounded by friends.
