John H. Dempster

John H. Dempster, 95, of Rockford, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. Born February 13, 1930, in Cedar Falls, IA, the son of John F. Ruby (Henderson) Dempster. Graduate of University of Iowa in 1950 with a Bachelor's Degree in teaching. Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1951 to 1955 as Lieutenant Junior Grade. After returning from the service John went back to school and received his second Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. John married Sharon C. Fenske on February 20, 2004 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Rockford. He taught at Monroe Center High School and Rockford Public Elementary Schools, and worked for AC Sparkplug and Sunstrand Aviation retiring in 1988. John enjoyed oil painting and had many paintings over the years. He also enjoyed gardening and was very handy. John was very intelligent and had a great memory.

Survived by his wife, Sharon; sons, William R. Dempster and Thomas (Krista) Dempster; and sister, Sarah J. Lopez. Predeceased by his parents; first wife, Marilyn Rath Dempster; and second wife, Carol Ruth Dempster.

Private graveside services will be held in Scandinavian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northern Illinois Hospice, 4751 Harrison Ave., Rockford, IL 61108.
