John Anthony DeRenzis, 84, a lifelong resident of West Harrison, NY, passed peacefully Thanksgiving morning, November 27, 2025. John bravely fought until his last breath, surrounded by his loving family.
John was born on June 27, 1941, to John and Tessie "Susie" (Gentile) DeRenzis in White Plains, NY. He attended White Plains High School, graduating in the class of 1959. He married Beatrice Charolette Motts on January 1, 1962 and they had four children. He worked in the shipping department at Arnold Bakery in Greenwich, CT and retired in 2003.
John was an avid collector of coins and cars, his favorite: a 57 Chevy. A history buff, whose favorite president was Abraham Lincoln, John also loved music and played the accordion since childhood. He enjoyed taking his family to Wildwood, NJ on summer vacations and trips to Mohegan Sun with his wife. John loved all food, but especially a good, sweet treat. John was truly one-of-a-kind, always known for his sharp tongue and wit. You'd often find him lying on the living room floor with his deck of cards, playing solitaire. His soft side was born the day he became a grandfather: John was most proud of his grandchildren, and always made sure "Poppy" devoted his time for family dinners, games, graduations, ceremonies, and all the simple moments in between.
In addition to his wife of 63 years, John is survived by daughter Lorie Carroll and son-in-law Michael Carroll, daughter Cynthia Maximo, daughter Dana DeRenzis and Christopher Arrigo, daughter-in-law Kristine DeRenzis; grandchildren, Shannon Marie Olmo (Jeremy), Michael Carroll (Cate), Richard Mueller (Courtney), Cheyenne Maximo, Michael DeRenzis, Marissa DeRenzis, and grandpuppy Hope; great grandchildren, Lydia Olmo, Logan Olmo, Lexi Olmo, Jo Mueller, and Callan Mueller; brother, Thomas DeRenzis, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and "Susie" DeRenzis, and beloved son, John DeRenzis.
Calling hours will be from 10am-12pm, Friday, December 5th at Hawthorne Funeral Home, 21 W Stevens Ave
