John Carl DiRienzo, 96, of Natick, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, his 96th birthday, following a brief illness.
Born March 26, 1929, in Worcester, MA, he was the son of the late John and Alice Lillian (Pignolo) DiRienzo.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sylvia DiRienzo (Buttrey) in 2019. He was the loving father to Victoria Canner and her husband Irving, of Greenland, NH, Christopher DiRienzo and his lifetime partner Cynthia Linnehan. Beloved grandfather of Brittany Canner, Zachary Canner, Anthony DiRienzo and Nicholas DiRienzo. Cherished great-grandfather of Tessa and Cody DiRienzo, Gianna DiRienzo and Jameson Canner.
John was an educator for most of his career. Upon graduating from Clark University in Worcester he taught in the Southboro School System for several years. Seeking better opportunities for his family he became a representative for several pharmaceutical companies, eventually returning to the world of education in his role at the Massachusetts Department of Education as the coordinator for vocational schools. Ultimately, John ended his professional career back in the "classroom" as a beloved teacher at Middlesex and Massachusetts Bay Community Colleges, finally retiring at the age of 80.
John was an avid reader and frequent visitor at the Morse Institute Library in Natick. He loved great movies, music, especially Frank Sinatra, family gatherings, had a passion for automobiles of all kinds and enjoyed traveling with his adored wife Sylvia. John will be best remembered as the devoted loving patriarch of our family. After 70 years of marriage, John will now be reunited with the love of his life, Sylvia.
A private graveside service was held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Edgell Grove Cemetery, in Framingham.
Donations in John's memory may be made to the March of Dimes, 1550 Crystal Dr., Suite 1300, Arlington, VA 22202 or Dontate | March of Dimes
