John Henry Dix, Jr, 82, passed away on March 27, 2024 in his home in Conroe, Texas. He was born on October 14, 1941, in Batesville, Arkansas to John Henry "Jack" Dix, Sr and Alma Beatrice "Bea" Sullivan.
John graduated from Mabelville High School in 1960 and joined the United States Navy where he served active duty until 1962 and transferred to the Naval Reserves where he served until 1965. He continued to sharpen his mechanical skills and began a career as a master repairman.
John met Sandra "Sandy" Jean Edmonson in June 1968 and they were married in Mount Vernon, Arkansas on December 6, 1968. They moved several times the first few years of marriage but settled in Conroe, Texas in 1974.
John served his community when he became a volunteer fireman in 1978 and went on to instruct First Aid and Basic Life support courses.
John worked most of his career as a master repairman at Gulf States Utilities in Willis, Texas until he retired in 1996.
John was known for his sense of adventure, sharp wit, sense of humor, storytelling abilities, ability to "fix anything" and the ongoing legend that he could "strike a match on a wet bar of soap".
John had a passion, instilled in him from his father, for racing cars and motorcycles. He was an avid hunter who loved deer hunting and duck hunting as well as bow fishing. You could always find him "tinkering" on projects in his barn.

Rest In Peace, John. You were the most amazing inventor, clever and funny, with a lifetime of stories. The repository of knowledge in your brain has now been lost to future generations and that is a tragedy.
