John K. Doherty, age 76, beloved husband of Ann M. (Dellorfano) Doherty and the late Theresa (Boisvert) Doherty died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 26 at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center with his family by his side.
He was born in Somerville, July 19, 1947 a son of the late Patrick and Madge (McLaughlin) Doherty and grew up in Charlestown before moving to Medford and then Billerica in 2006.
Prior to his retirement John worked as a painter for John Hancock Insurance and was a member of the Italian American Club in Malden and the Halogen Club in Charlestown.
Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Thomas Costello of N. Chelmsford and Kevin Costello and his wife Colleen of Plymouth; three daughters, Nancy Doherty of Canton, Elise Green and her partner Michael Watkins of N. Billerica, and Joshlyn Costello of N. Billerica; four sisters, Patsy Russell, Joan Mansfield, Janet McGonagle and Veronica Cooney; seven grandchildren, Justin, Alyssa, Sophia, Hudson, Mason, Grace and Hanna, many nieces and nephews as well as his beloved grand dog Jackson. He was the father of the late John P. Doherty and brother of the late Hugh Doherty, Rita McLaughlin, Helen Dinsmore and Marge Keenan.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday, June 30, at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 1 – 4 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, July 1, at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, E. Chelmsford In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, www.cander.org or to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org
