John Kevin Dowding, 71, of Dixon, IL, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He worked as a machine operator for Woods Equipment in Oregon, IL, for 28+ years.
John was born on June 2, 1953, in Dixon, the son of John E. and Darlene (Draper) Dowding. He married Peggy Brickey on June 29, 1973, in Dixon. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Dixon. John enjoyed spending his time outside; he was an avid fisherman and gardener. He loved visiting the casino and talking with people, and could often be found playing bingo with his friends in Oregon at the VFW...whom were not just friends, but his second family. Above all things, John was a family man, and especially loved spending time with his grandkids.
John is survived by his mother, Darlene Dowding of Sherman, IL; his wife of 51 years, Peggy Dowding of Dixon; children, Christy (Steve) Boelter of Dixon, Mathew (Megan) Dowding of St. Louis, MO; four grandchildren, Brendan (Dakota Shuck) Boelter, Bre Boelter, Gavin Dowding, Taylor Dowding; three brothers, Tim (Shirley) Dowding of Plano, TX, Rick Dowding of Oglesby, IL, Mike (Marcia) Dowding of Blue Springs, MO; and one sister, Debbie (Wayne) Werner of Sherman, IL.
John was preceded in death by his father, John E. Dowding and one brother, Pat Dowding.
A Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 am on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon with Rev. Rosa Lee, from Grace United Methodist Church in Dixon, officiating. Burial will be to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.
The family invites you to partake in a Luncheon after the burial at the Oregon VFW Post 8739.
