John Charles Drain, Jr., 73, of Holton, formerly of Topeka, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2025.
He was born May 11, 1951, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of John C. and Beverly (McKinney) Drain, Sr. He was a 1969 graduate of Topeka High School and received a Bachelor’s and Master's Degree in Social Work from Washburn University.
John was a Juvenile Probation Officer for the State of Kansas until retiring.
John married Cindy G. Ludwig on September 2, 1997. She preceded him in death on December 11, 2021. Survivors include his two daughters, Christy (David) Rieschick of Holton, KS, and Jennifer (Keith) Reimer of Port St. Lucie, FL; five grandchildren, Caitlyn (Tyler) Neier, Lauren (Garret) Lambrecht, Alexis (Harley) Wright, Makenna Rieschick and Skyler Atchison; and six great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Benjamin, Lilah, Olivia, Henry and Elliot.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Raegan Reimer; and his brother, Kevin M. Drain.
John was a devoted family man who cherished the time spent with his loved ones, including a particularly close relationship with his son-in-law, David. Their shared experiences, which included enjoying ice cream, pizza, and outings to the lake, were a testament to the bonds they formed.
In addition to his family connections, John had a wide range of interests that brought him joy. He was passionate about music and embraced the great outdoors, finding solace in activities such as fishing and Morell mushroom hunting. John's enthusiasm extended to social pastimes as well; he enjoyed visiting the casino, playing pool, and participating in a bowling league, where he enjoyed friendly competition and camaraderie with others.
John’s life was a celebration of relationships and shared experiences, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him. He will be remembered fondly by friends and family alike.
Honoring his request, cremation is planned. A celebration of life ceremony will be held at 6:00 p.m., Monday, April 14, 2025 at Parker Price & Davidson, Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka.
