John H. Edwards of Mount Pleasant, Texas, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 7, 2025, at the age of 90. He was born on October 24, 1934, in Cason, Texas, to Loyd and Winnie Edwards. On September 20, 1958, John married the love of his life, Martha Ann Floyd. For 64 years until her passing in 2022, John and Martha shared a life rooted in faith, devotion, and family.

John was a hardworking man who, alongside his sons, built and operated a successful plumbing business. In 1962, he was ordained as a Deacon at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pittsburg, Texas, and he went on to serve faithfully at Emmanuel Baptist Church, South Jefferson Baptist Church, Calvary Baptist Church, and Nevill's Chapel Baptist Church. To many in his community, especially the children and teenagers he ministered to, he was simply "Bro. John." He led Children's Church and youth ministry at South Jefferson Baptist Church and served as a youth minister at Calvary Baptist Church. He was well known as a devoted Sunday School teacher at Nevill's Chapel Baptist Church, leading large classes for many years. Blevins Cemetery held a special place in John's heart; he served loyally as the President of Blevins Cemetery. Additionally, he was a dedicated volunteer of the Titus Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.

Whether gardening, hunting, tending chickens, or even picking up sticks in the yard, John loved being outdoors. Some of his happiest moments were spent with his children and grandchildren on the family farm. He was always ready to sing a song or share a laugh, particularly when he drove his grandchildren to school each day during their elementary years.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife Martha Ann Edwards; parents Loyd and Winnie Edwards; brothers Harold Edwards and Cecil Edwards; and sister Juanelle Cox. He is survived by his brother, James Richard Edwards; sons, Mike Edwards and wife Angie, and David Edwards; grandchildren and their spouses, Kendall and Ashley Edwards, Kayla and Glenn Barras, Jessica Edwards, Nikki and Joshua Hatfield, Bailie Edwards, and Kassi and Andrew Mowrey; as well as great-grandchildren Kinley, Ramzee, Coy, Emma, Josie, Vivie Kate, Everleigh, Nora, Jaxon, Tommy, John, and Lexi.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bates Cooper Sloan Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, Texas. Funeral services will be held the following morning, Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at South Jefferson Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant, with interment immediately following at Blevins Cemetery in Cason, Texas.

John will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and man of faith whose legacy of love, laughter, and service will live on through the lives of those he touched.
