John W. Ellis, age 93, of Dry Ridge, Kentucky, formerly of
Campbellsburg, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at the Russell County Hospital in Russell Springs, Kentucky. Born February 2, 1932 in New Castle, Kentucky, he was the son of John B. and Anna Bell (Lindell) Ellis.
Mr. Ellis served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, entering on September 4, 1951, and discharged honorably on September 3, 1955, after achieving the rank of Airman First Class. Following his discharge, he immediately enlisted for another six years. While in the military, Mr. Ellis worked as an electrician in Iceland and Germany installing generators and power plants. He retired as an electrician for the Anaconda Magnet Wire and Cable Company in LaGrange, Kentucky.
Mr. Ellis enjoyed boating, water skiing on the Ohio River with his friends and family, trail rides, parades, and horses. He rode horses up to two years before his death.
His surviving family includes his wife, the former Judy McClain; one son, John J. Ellis and his wife, Beverly of Bedford; two granddaughters: Amanda Eldridge and Benita Netherton and her husband, Scott, all of Lagrange; two grandsons: John M. Ellis and his companion, Jennifer Graczuk of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Thomas Ellis and his wife, Amanda of Overton, Nebraska; three half-brothers: Floyd McClain and his wife, Burna of Eminence, Kentucky, James McClain and his wife, Elaine of Smithfield, Kentucky, and Michael McClain and his wife, Dorothy of Crestwood, Kentucky; and a host of great grandchildren, other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, the former Arlis Ronnig on March 27, 2016; one daughter, Rose Benedict-Humble on April 14, 2022; one sister, Helen McClain; and one half-brother, Billy Truman.
Reverend Dave Woosley will conduct the funeral services.
