Obituary of John M Empson
John M. Empson, "Crabby Jack", 83, of North Port, FL and formerly of Cape May, NJ, passed away on April 3, 2023. He was born on July 20, 1939 in Urbana, IL. Jack served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1964 and was an Atomic Veteran. He was a member of the NRA, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), National Association of Atomic Veterans, and the Englewood Moose Lodge. Jack also received the Customer Service Award for his work on the Cape May Lewes Ferry.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Lynda Empson; daughter, Lori Ann Pierce and husband Mike; daughter, Laurie Hornberger and husband Scott; son, Buddy Empson; grandchildren, Alexis Pastor and husband Kenny, Ryan Empson, Joshua, Nate and Emily Hornberger.
When all is said and done, it's the impact you made on those around you and the genuine love that you demonstrated in selfless service that is the mark of a well-lived life...and Crabby lived life to its fullest.
His loss will be sorely felt by so many because he was so down-to-earth, insightful, giving, wise, thoughtful, and genuine. He told you how it was, but always with complete respect. He loved his family, dear friends, his pets, and our country.
Crabby Jack was that rare combination of easy-going, yet savvy; fun-loving, yet smart. Everyone who knows him has a story they could share that would immediately bring a smile or a laugh. He made this world a better place and we are privileged to have known him and grieved to have lost him.
No services are planned at this time. Memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army or Tunnel to Towers. Farley Funeral Home in North Port is in charge of arrangements.
"Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around, he leaves an awful hole." -
