John Darrell Ferguson was born on December 5, 1939 to John Thurmond and Christine (Brown) Ferguson, and passed away on November 11, 2022 in Palliative Care at Baptist Hospital, with his family at his side. He grew up in the West End of Louisville and was a graduate of Male High School, class of 1957. He attended Indiana University Southeast and proudly served his country with the Air National Guard.
John was a pioneer in the computer business beginning in the late 1950's. He owned Ferguson & Associates, and Pros and he managed computer systems for more than 20 other businesses before retiring from AAA Kentucky. His favorite retirement job was leading guests at the Louisville Zoo. John was a man with many interests. He was an accomplished musician, a Mason, a Boy Scout leader, a painter, a pilot, a chef, a craftsman, a gardener, an animal lover, a fisherman and a jokester. He served his community as a member of the Red Cross disaster relief team, the GCCS School Board and Kosair Children's Hospital as Ribit the Clown and as Santa Claus. He loved to travel, tell stories, and always knew where to go for a good meal.
Most of all, he loved being a husband to Bettye Sue (Langsford) Ferguson, a father to Dan Ferguson (Carla), and Ginny King (Mark) and Papa to Jack & Chrissy Ferguson and Lilly & Alex King. He also leaves stories in the hearts of his cousins Andrew Armstrong, LeAnn Stelly, sister-in-law Rebecca Tucker, nieces and nephews, and an assembly of friends that he considered family. His family would also like to give a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Esther Costel, and caregivers, Jennifer Shaw, Kaleigh Grayson, and Dione White, and all the staff at Baptist Hospital. He lived life on his own terms.
A celebration of his extraordinary life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, condolences can be made to Kosair Charities at https://www.kosair.org/donate.
