John R. Fernsler was born on June 27, 1929 in Lebanon to John E. Fernsler and Belva I. (Bressler) Fernsler and passed away on June 15, 2024. Surviving is a son, John Scott Fernsler and two daughters, Susan Hutchins, companion of Thomas Arnold and Kelly wife of Timothy Long. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. A graduate of Lebanon High School, Class of 1947, he was an electrician employed by Hauer Electric-Lebanon and PRL Industries-Cornwall. John was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Korea and was the recipient of the bronze star. A lifelong member of St. Marks U.C.C.-Lebanon, where he served on various committees. He was Consistorial President during renovations of the sanctuary and was responsible for the Mifflin Street Handicap wall channels to have religious drapes and a means to secure candle holders, a longtime member of the property committee, served as financial secretary, a member of the various boards, building and pastoral search committee. John was an active member of the Boy Scout Troop, serving on the Scout Counsel and he along with another member of the boy scout troop were temporary scout masters while seeking a permanent scout master. As a member of the Lebanon Jaycees he served as a director and first vice president and attended conferences in St. Louis and Buffalo as a director and organized the Halloween parade, the annual auction and the Christmas Toy Shop. For these endeavors he received the outstanding Jaycee of the year award. While in the Jaycees he attended a Dale Carnegie class and was named prepared speech champion. John was a 2nd Lt. as a senior member of the civil air patrol. He was a member of Mount Lebanon Lodge #226 F&AM, Weidle Royal Chapter 127 and Royal and Select Master Mason's Lebanon Council 27. He was also a member of the Annville Legion. Visitation with family and friends will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 from 10:30-11:15 A.M. with a Masonic Service to begin at 11:15 A.M. and a memorial service to follow at 11:30 A.M. all to be held at St. Marks U.C.C., 426 N. 8th Street, Lebanon, PA 17046. Interment private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of John to your favorite charity.

"A Korean War veteran has passed away today." John, you are now relieved from your post. A job well done fellow veteran and mason. America thanks you for your service to our country in the defense of freedom. The final bugle has sounded and taps is about to sound ending a successful career as a nation“s defender. Farewell fellow war veteran.

He was my Uncle and he gave me a Cinderella watch for Christmas when I was three years old. I also remember baking cupcakes with my Mother to send to Korea when he served there.
