John Mark Fetterman, of Sandwich, formerly of Plymouth, passed away peacefully at home on June 6 after a long battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Vickie J. (McKay) Fetterman for 51 wonderful years.
Born on July 28, 1955, in Norristown, PA, John was the son of the late Daniel Fetterman and Josephine (Bradley) McKay. He grew up in Weymouth and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps Reserves from 1973 to 1979. After his military service he started his career as a machinist/tool and dye maker. Before his retirement he was employed as a head machinist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.
John lived in Plymouth for more than 40 years before moving to Sandwich. Until recently he spent his winters in Dunedin, Florida where he enjoyed the warm sunshine and an active life with family and friends. John had a passion for sports and was a dedicated fan of all New England teams. John had a mechanical skillset that he enjoyed using to help his friends and family in so many ways.
Above all, John's greatest love was for his family. He is survived by his three sons: Michael J. Fetterman and his wife Danielle of Lithia, Florida, David S. Fetterman and his wife Kristen of Marston Mills, and Benjamin D. Fetterman of Bourne. He was a cherished grandfather to Katherine, Allyson, Kendra, Alexander, Ryan, and Benjamin, who brought him immense joy and pride.
John is also survived by his siblings: Lois Perrett of Weymouth, James Fetterman of Kirkwood, PA, Daniel Fetterman of Palm Harbor, FL, Deborah Hoffman of Glenn Mills, PA, Paula Stewart of West Chester, PA, Robin Cuoco of Weymouth, as well as in-laws Sharon Danbach of Malvern, PA, and Scott A. McKay of Plymouth.
A memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held on Wednesday June 18, 2025 at Cape Cod Church located at 1205 Nathan Ellis Hwy, East Falmouth, Ma 02536 at 11:00AM. Family and friends are invited to gather and share their memories of a remarkable man whose spirit touched the lives of many.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in John's memory to the Beth Isreal Deaconess Cancer Center in Plymouth or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
John Mark Fetterman will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, service, and dedication will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
