It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Francis Fitzgerald, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and devoted member of the community, who departed this life on December 16, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on December 12, 1937, in Erie, Pennsylvania, John spent his later years in Mauldin, South Carolina, creating a loving home filled with laughter, faith, and compassion.
John was a man of deep conviction and unwavering faith, having dedicated over 30 years of his life to Religious Education. A committed member of the Knights of Columbus, he served his parish and community as a Lector, Usher, and Eucharistic Minister at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. His passion for service and commitment to his faith greatly enriched the lives of those around him, leaving a lasting legacy in his community.
Professionally, John found fulfillment in his work within the Information Technology sector. He retired from Kemet and later served as a manager for Pearson Testing Centers, where he was respected for his dedication, leadership, and compassionate approach to those he worked with.
John is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie Fitzgerald; his adoring children, Kathryn Smith (Robert), Theresa Ellis (Douglas), Amy Heitz (Chris), John Fitzgerald (Michelle), and Timothy Fitzgerald (Robin); as well as, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, and his first wife of 44 years, Patricia Fitzgerald, John was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Dennen; and a brother, Thomas Fitzgerald.
In honor of John's life and his unwavering faith, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Burial will be private at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Birthright of Greenville, or the National Kidney Foundation.
As we gather to celebrate the life of John Francis Fitzgerald, let us remember his unwavering faith and love for family and community, which will continue to inspire and guide us. May he rest in eternal peace.
