John W. Foos, 83, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025, at the age of 83 in Highland Park, Illinois.
John was born in Marion, Ohio, to Ethel (Lenz) Foos and Melvin Foos. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Economics from The Ohio State University, he embarked on a distinguished career in public service. Committed to his country, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and attended Officer Training School, subsequently serving two tours in Vietnam. His bravery, dedication, and valor were recognized with two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.
John met his beloved wife Nancy who were married in 1971 and shared 49 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2020.
John had a fulfilling and successful professional career working in corporate security in New York City, and was present for the tragic events on September 11th where he again demonstrated great bravery and courage, this time in support of his colleagues in Lower Manhattan.
John's retirement years were filled with the simple pleasures he loved most. An avid golfer, he could often be found on the greens, perfecting his swing, and taking long rides on his bicycle. Summers were joyously spent at the beach with his family, where he cherished moments with his granddaughters, Sophia and Eliana Marchisello, children of his devoted daughter, Kristin (Tom) Marchisello.
John was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Browns and Guardians and loved to talk about baseball, including statistics and trivia. He loved classical music, reading beautiful literature, and took the time to learn French (possibly so he could properly pronounce and order his favorite foods)!
John was predeceased by his parents and his loving wife Nancy. He is survived by his brother Richard (Sherry) Foos, his brother-in-law Bruce (Brenda) Collins, and beloved daughter Kristin (Tom) Marchisello, as well as his granddaughters. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the family he loved, and the countless memories cherished by all who knew him.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the Church of St. Mary, 175 E. Illinois Road in Lake Forest, Illinois. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's honor to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at https://www.lbda.org/.
