John William Oldfather, passed away on August 12, 2025, at the age of 78. Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, John was a lifelong learner, a dedicated professional, a Navy veteran, and a loving grandfather.

He served as a Navy Corpsman at Portsmouth Naval Hospital from 1970 to 1974. Following his military service, he earned his Ph.D. in Microbiology-Immunology from The Ohio State University and spent most of his career as Vice President at Jewish Hospital Rudd Heart & Lung Institute. Later, he found joy in a second career as a Realtor.

John had many hobbies and talents - a beekeeper, photographer, woodworker, and a pilot. He loved crossword puzzles and cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes. He loved most being "Papa" to his four grandchildren.

He is survived by his former wife, Jean Oldfather; daughter, Rebecca Manning; son-in-law, Ethan Manning; and grandchildren, Madeline Teresa (15), Alice Caroline (13), Hank William (11), and Cora Ellen (11). He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Evelyn (Pierce) Oldfather.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Herren Project or the Hanley Foundation to honor his journey and to support alcohol addiction, prevention, and recovery in the hope of helping others.
