John M. Fuchs

John M. Fuchs of Springfield, formerly of Upper Montclair, N.J., a retired vice president of Credit Suisse in New York and former assistant treasurer of the State of New Jersey, died March 22. He was 75.
Mr. Fuchs is survived by two daughters, Anne (Jerame) Secaras of Lake Hiawatha, N.J., and Mary Fuchs of Rose Valley; two grandchildren, Kathryn Anne (Annie) and Lawrence (Larry) Rispoli of Rose Valley; a brother, Dr. David of Lancaster, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Leonard A. and Ruth A. (Dumm) Fuchs; a sister, Nancy, and a brother, Len.
Raised in Glenside, Mr. Fuchs graduated Abington High School and the University of Delaware, where he was the editor-in-chief of the student newspaper, The Review.
Mr. Fuchs worked for a series of newspapers in Delaware and New Jersey, culminating at the Philadelphia Bulletin, until it closed in 1982. He covered enabling legislation and the debut of casino gambling in Atlantic City and the Garden State Park racetrack fire in Cherry Hill, N.J. In 1982, he served as press secretary to Congresswoman Millicent Fenwick (R-Bernardsville) in her campaign against Frank Lautenberg for a U.S. Senate seat from New Jersey. Mr. Fuchs next served as an assistant N.J. state treasurer for three state treasurers during the Kean administration.
Later, he worked in marketing and financial communications with KPMG Peat Marwick in Montvale, N.J.; Prudential Mutual Funds in Newark, N.J.; and the J.P. Morgan private bank in New York. After obtaining the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, he worked for more than 20 years as vice president and supervisory analyst at Credit Suisse in New York, where he was responsible for final approval of stock research reports before they were published. He retired in 2021.
Mr. Fuchs enjoyed travel in Europe and South America, visiting the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, Russia, and Peru. He was a member of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Barnes Foundation, the Winterthur Museum, and Longwood Gardens.
