Colonie - John “Jack” Gardy, born December 23rd, 1943, passed away on February 26th, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in North Albany, Jack carried his roots with him throughout his life. The values of family, hard work, loyalty and faith remained central to who he was.
Jack dedicated many years of his career to Macsteel, where he worked faithfully until his retirement. He took pride in his work and in providing for his family through steady dedication and commitment.
Jack was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He shared his life with his beloved wife, Elaine (Eames) Gardy, and together they built a family that was the center of his world.
He had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. Jack was also known as an exceptional chef of Italian food, especially for his famous “Poppy’s Pasta” and his unforgettable meatballs. His kitchen was often the heart of family gatherings, where stories were told, laughter was shared, and traditions were passed down through generations.
Jack is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Elaine. He was predeceased by his parents, Anthony Gardy and Frances (Yanni) Gardy, as well as his brothers, Samuel Gardy, Robert Gardy, and Arthur Gardy. Jack is survived by his children, Jill (Gardy) Birdsall, Edward Gardy (Michelle Gardy), and Joelle (Gardy) Trimarchi (Joseph Trimarchi); his cherished grandchildren, Jaimie (Birdsall) Pulver (Bill Pulver), Eric Birdsall (Nicole Gleichmann), Jennifer (Gardy) Oot, (Brandon Oot), Tricia Gardy, Macie Trimarchi, Cameron Trimarchi, and Ella Trimarchi; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Sadie Pulver, Riley Birdsall and Evelyn Oot. He is also survived by his siblings; Jane Barcomb, Pat Porcaro, William Gardy, and his sisters in law Mary Ellen Gardy, Marilyn Gardy, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Florida Cancer, NYOH, and Community Hospice for their compassion and care. And a special thank you to Team Barcomb, who demonstrated the meaning of unconditional love and support to the family.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026 from 11 am to 2 pm with a Prayer Service offered at 2 pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie.
