John Curtis Genzer, a man remembered for his loving nature, friendly demeanor, and selfless acts, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2024, in his hometown of La Grange, Texas. Born on March 9, 1982, in the same close-knit community, John's roots ran deep in the heart of Texas where he cultivated a life rich in family, work, and hobbies.
John's early years were spent under the vast Texan sky in La Grange, where he cultivated a love for the outdoors. He graduated from El Campo High School, where he formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. His career spanned several reputable companies within the oil industry, including FESCO, Wood Group, Oil States, Baker Hughes, and Python. His colleagues knew him as a man of integrity and dedication, always willing to lend a hand or share a laugh.
It was not just his professional life that defined John; his personal interests painted the picture of a man who loved life. An avid outdoorsman, John found solace in hunting and fishing, often sharing his adventures with family and friends. His skills in carpentry were not just a hobby but a way of creating memories and leaving a lasting legacy through his craftsmanship. John's love for traveling took him on many journeys, but he was always happiest when he returned home to Texas. He was renowned for his barbecuing and cooking crawfish, a talent that turned family gatherings into feasts and celebrations.
John is survived by a loving family who will miss him dearly: his wife Rachel Genzer of La Grange; daughters Madison and husband William of Round Rock and Natalie Genzer of Houston; son Grayson Genzer of La Grange; step-daughter Avery Ward of La Grange; mother Mary Labay and stepfather Parker of Edna; father George Genzer and stepmother Margie of El Campo; parents-in-law Tommy and Vicky Causey of La Grange; stepbrother Steve Heinrich and wife Betsy of Georgetown; stepsister Jennifer Kight and husband Dale of El Campo; brother Chris Genzer and wife Tiffany of Victoria; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Regina and Bradley Nelson of Cat Spring; and grandson William Herring. John will also be fondly remembered by his nieces Anna Kight, Reilly Heinrich, Finley Heinrich, Rinley Nelson, and Bexley Nelson; and nephews Carter Heinrich, Blaine Kight, Rayner Heinrich, Easton Heinrich, and Fisher Genzer.
John's character was best encapsulated by the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson: "To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Success, indeed, was a hallmark of John's life, not measured in material wealth but in the richness of the relationships he nurtured and the lives he touched.
As we bid farewell to John Curtis Genzer, we celebrate a life well-lived, a legacy of love, and the countless memories he leaves behind. His passing may leave a void, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him to live fully, love generously, and make the world a better place just as he did.
John's life will be commemorated in a private ceremony, surrounded by those who cherished him most. He will be laid to rest in the town that he loved, under the wide Texas sky that he admired so much. As the sun sets on a life so brightly lived, we take comfort in knowing that John's journey was one of purpose and joy, and that his memory will be forever etched in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

My condolences to the family of John. It has been years since I last saw John and I will remember him by what I saw then... laughing.. He would stop my office and share stories and each time I had to close my office door because of we were laughing so loud. Each time. Just a good guy. Rest in peace my friend. I´m sure you are putting a smile on all those in Heaven.
