Larry Genzer, age 76, of Cherry Hill, passed away on October 4, 2025, surrounded by members of his loving family, after putting up a valiant fight having been diagnosed with glioblastoma in July 2022.
Born on October 6, 1948, in Jersey City, Larry was the son of Janet and Morris Genzer. He grew up in Jersey City and graduated from Snyder High School, Class of 1966, where he was the captain of the varsity basketball team. Larry went on to study education at Temple University, where he served as the president of the school's chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity.
In 1973, Larry married Susan Goldstein, daughter of Pete and Mildred Goldstein of Philadelphia. Together they built their life and raised a family in South Jersey. Larry is survived by his loving and devoted wife Susan, and their two children, Michele Genzer and Daniel Genzer. Larry was the proud and adoring grandfather of Isaac, Eleanor, Janie, Gabrielle, and Caleb, who meant the world to him. He built his life around supporting his children's and grandchildren's passions and dreams. He is also survived by his siblings Norman (Nola) Genzer and Alisa Genzer, his sister-in-law Ellen, and many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.
Larry began his career in education, teaching history in Jersey City in the early 1970s before earning his master's degree at Seton Hall University. He spent decades serving as a Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant for the Camden City Public Schools' Child Study Team, where he was a tireless advocate for children with disabilities, ensuring that every student received the support and education they deserved.
Larry's passion for basketball followed him throughout his life. From his early days as varsity captain at Snyder High to coaching local South Jersey teams, the court was always his second home. He served for many years as the freshman and assistant varsity basketball coach at Cherry Hill East High School. Larry also helped found a basketball team for the South Jersey delegation of the JCC Maccabi Games which took him around the country, mentoring young athletes and representing South Jersey's Jewish community with pride. Later in life, he returned to the court to coach his grandson's freshman and AAU basketball teams, bringing his love of the game full circle.
Larry was known for his good and kind nature, his humor, and his commitment to doing right by others. He loved riding his motorcycle on winding mountain roads, almost as much as he loved the music of Neil Young. Above all, his greatest joy was his family.
Funeral services will be graveside on Wednesday, October 8th, at 2:00 PM at Crescent Memorial Park in Pennsauken, New Jersey. The family will be observing Shiva the afternoon of October 8th and 9th in their home in Cherry Hill. Minyan services will be held at sundown on both days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to "Genzer's Got Hustle," a nonprofit fundraiser created to honor Larry's legacy and lifelong contributions to youth basketball and education. Each year, a recipient will be awarded scholarship funds to further their skills, training, and love for the game.

When you meet the manifestation of GRACE, you don't forget that person. That is my memory of Mr. Genzer. He helped coach my son years ago and had such grace and kindness. May his memory be a blessing. We offer our sincere condolences.
