Smith Benton Funeral Home - BentonJohn B. Gerloff, Jr., 73, of Benton, Arkansas, passed away on August 9, 2025. He was born on October 30, 1951, in Norfolk, Virginia, to John B. Sr. and Mary Ellen Gerloff. John worked many years as a supervisor for the City of Houston, followed by serving as a night shift guard at the Arkansas State Highway Patrol, where he was respected for his hard work and integrity.
He attended Christ the King Catholic School but ultimately graduated from Bayside High School. John was a mostly quiet and frugal man who enjoyed Western movies and grilling for his family and friends. He was also a well-regarded artist whose talent was admired by many. Though reserved by nature, John had a generous heart and quietly supported numerous local charities, non-profits, and community causes, always seeking to help those in need without recognition.
He is survived by his son, Josh Gerloff; brothers, Michael and Chris Gerloff; and sisters, Patricia Gilbert and Julie Santos. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Madeline Gerloff, as well as his parents, and sister, Peggy Bogan.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on August 15, 2025, at New Friendship Cemetery, 7316 Friendship Rd., in Benton, Arkansas, 72015. In lieu of flowers, memorials in the form of donations may be made to THEO Foundation.
John was a simple man who lived a quiet life and has now joined his beloved wife in eternity. He will be deeply loved and missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
