John Leo Gerstbauer, 69, of Bremen, IN passed away on Monday, January 22, unexpectedly at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarice and Bernard Gerstbauer. Surviving family include his son, Neill Gerstbauer of Bremen; daughter, Camille (Brent) Beeson of Greenwood; granddaughters, Mckenzie, Tenley and Aubrey Beeson and his sister, Mary Ann VanPaemel of Granger.
John was born on January 11, 1955 in South Bend, Indiana. He was a graduate of Penn High School in 1973. He moved to Bremen in 1986 to raise his family in a small-town country setting. John has a long career as a maintenance mechanic-machinist at local pattern and machine shops until he retired in 2020.
John enjoyed hunting, fishing, skeet shooting, gardening, cooking and spending time with family and friends. He was best known as a kind guy, easy going, and would never pass on a cold beer. He had a passion for everything sports and enjoyed reading magazines, papers, even encyclopedias and could always sight little known facts about anything and everything.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 30 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. with a funeral service at 2 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.

I always strived to play my accordion like he could play his accordion!
In 1994 John walked in to a South Bend funeral home to pay his respects to a Gerstbauer. He asked me which of the Gerstbauer men. He may not have known which one but was there to RESPECT the Gerstbauer NAME.
That is exactly how we feel about Him and his Family.
