John Walter Gettel, Jr. 78, of Falling Waters, WV passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025, at his home.
He was born on October 11, 1946, in Hagerstown, MD to the late John Walter Sr. and Jean Ione (Poffenberger) Gettel.
He attended South Hagerstown High School.
John previously retired from the Railroad and Control Systems and went on to work at the W.D. Tannery.
John loved fishing and model trains. He enjoyed the annual family camping trips to Ocean City.
He is survived by his wife Alice V. (Socks) Gettel whom he married on April 29, 1982; son John Walter Gettel, II (Debbie); son Aaron Eugene Gettel; stepdaughter Cindy Karn (George); sister Donna Hewitt (Charles); sister Julie Bricker; grandchildren Michele Unger, Ryan Brady, Adam Brady, Allison Gettel, Ayrika Gettel, Aaron Gettel, Jason Gettel, and Alyssa Gettel; 14 great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son Jason Gettel; grandchildren G.R. Karn, III and Kayla Gettel.
Funeral services will be held at the Osborne Funeral Home, P.A. 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 11:00 am with Pastor Rick Socks officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday from 10:00 – 11:00 am. Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park Hagerstown, MD.
