Robert (Bob) Everett Gettel passed away February 22, 2025.
Bob was born September 27, 1963, to Stanley and Elaine (Schwab) Gettel, where he was welcomed to the family by brother Jerome and sister Joan at their home in Sauk Rapids, MN. There the siblings enjoyed their early years exploring the countryside. In 1972, the family moved to Sebeka where they lived and worked on the family farm, learning to drive tractor and milk cows at a young age. Bob attended Sebeka High school, played basketball, and graduated in 1982. Bob and Debra Coventry welcomed a daughter Barbara Kay. The family moved to Grand Forks, ND, where he attended UND, earning his Sales and Marketing degree. Shortly after graduating, Bob accepted a position with Land O' Lakes, where he remained for his entire career before retiring in 2020 after 33 years of service.
In 1995, Bob met Jeanne Marty, the love of his life. They married in 1997 and lived in the Twin Cities until making the move to their dream home, on the Otter Tail River, that Jeanne and Bob constructed.
Bob loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening, maple syruping, and working with the AIS Committee of Star Lake where he made many friends and memories. Bob was always in the middle of a project or two, but was the first to volunteer if someone needed assistance. He thrived on staying busy.
He treasured creating the projects that showed Jeanne how much he loved her, as seen throughout their properties including the human sized dragon fly that hangs on their home. Bob's parenting skills kicked in a few years ago, when two eaglets lost their nest during a storm at their lake home. Bob would occasionally leave a northern or two from his daily catch for them to feast upon. Cougar and Gunner grew up, as eagles do, and can still be seen soaring over Star Lake and the cabin.
Bob loved his family dearly. He loved attending family events and that would often include Bingo, 500 Rummy, and meat raffles. He was loved, highly respected, and cherished by those who knew him.
Bob is preceded in death by his father, Stanley and mother, Elaine Gettel (Schwab); brother, Jerome; stepfather, Dave Priebe; mother and father-in-law, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; daughter, Barb (Katherine Jannusch); sister, Joanie Miller (Craig Poorker); many in-laws, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to The Veterans Honor Flight of ND/MN in honor of stepfather David Priebe(E5) and brother-in-law (retired col) Harold P. Marty.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 11 to 2 p.m. on April 26th, 2025 at Brenny Hall in Elizabeth, MN.
