Joseph Walter "Joey" Teach

Hagerstown, MD – Joseph Walter "Joey" Teach, 82, of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on March 4, 1943, in Hagerstown, MD to the late William Walter and Myrtle Irene Funkhouser Teach.

Joey was a 1962 graduate of Massanutten High School. He received his bachelor's degree in history at Athens State in Athens, Alabama in 1971.

He was employed by Mack Trucks, Inc. until his retirement in 2003.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church Williamsport, MD.

Joey was also a member of BPO Elks Lodge #378 Hagerstown, MD; Potomac Post #202 American Legion Williamsport, MD; Local 171 UAW Hagerstown, MD.

Joey loved playing tennis. He also loved the Ravens and the Orioles. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, especially buying ice cream for them. Joey had a great appreciation for home cooked meals and fine food.

He is survived by his wife, Sara Jane (Hayes) Teach, whom he married on August 10, 2011; stepdaughter Cheryl J. Leisinger and her husband Tim of Smithsburg, MD; stepson Al Heard and his wife Virginia of Hagerstown, MD; 8 step grandchildren; 1 step great grandson; 2 nieces and 1 nephew.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Barry A. Teach.

The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home, P.A. 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. The funeral home will be open after 9:00 am on Wednesday for the convenience of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Osborne Funeral Home, P.A. 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 11:00 am with the Shepherding Couple John and Melissa Miller officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park Williamsport, MD. Military honors will be provided by Clopper-Michael Post #10 American Legion Boonsboro, MD.
