John Gonsalves Gilmette, born on August 9, 1936, in Brava, Cabo Verde, age 87, peacefully passed away on April 2, 2024, in Snellville, Georgia. He served as a hardworking Merchant Marine on an Exxon Ship. John was a devoted husband to Vitora and a loving father to his children: Jackie, Olivia, John David (JD), Christopher, and Cristina. He also cherished his grandchildren: Jaelyn, Savien, Angelo, AJ, Avery, Ramona,and Abigail. John will be deeply missed by his family, which includes his sisters & brothers, and an abundance of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Olivia Gonsalves; his father, Joaquin Gilmette; and his brother, Antonio Joaquin.
John was known for his kind and loving nature. He took pride in his work and his family. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, tending to his gardens, cooking, and caring for all kinds of animals. His favorite was taking care of birds. John's quiet demeanor spoke volumes about his character. His passion for maintaining and accessorizing vehicles was evident to all who knew him. He will be missed by all who loved him.
A service to honor and remember John will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel, Snellville, GA. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel from 11:00 AM until the hour of service. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
