John Glod Obituary

Published by Bizub Quinlan Funeral Home - Van Houten on Jan. 18, 2017.
John P. Glod, 73, of Little Falls, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017. Born in Newark, John was raised in Wayne, graduating from Wayne High School in 1961. He moved to Little Falls 50 years ago after marrying his late wife, Barbara (nee Ores). John retired in 2001 from AT&T Co. of Basking Ridge after a 35-year career, including many years climbing utility poles, a job he took pride in. John also took pride in his Air Force service as a young man. A very organized and handy guy, John was an expert in home ownership, from gardening to equipment upkeep to storm water diversion to sewing (he fixed many a stuffed animal for grateful grandkids). He leaves behind a property maintenance checklist that is invaluable to his daughter Christa Limone and son-in-law Jerry Limone. John was most comfortable at home. He loved home-cooked meals, holiday get-togethers and doting on his two grandchildren, Alex and Josie. He was passionate about Yankees baseball and Rangers hockey. John didn't travel much, but often spoke fondly of his time in Oregon in the service, Jersey shore summer vacations when Christa was growing up, and trips to Gettysburg and other battlefields, as he was a Civil War buff. John was a simple but complex man with many layers. A dedicated father, John's world revolved around his daughter and, most recently, his two grandchildren. He was a man who would always step up to help a neighbor in need. John also loved taking care of his special animals, including the cats he owned during his lifetime. Besides his daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren, John is survived by sister Kathleen Zipfel and her husband Andy of Brigantine, N.J.; sister Donna Del Giudice and her husband Joe of Verona, N.J.; niece Stacey and her husband Kirby Gilreath; and nephew Eric Zipfel. He was predeceased by his wife Barbara in 1992, his father John in 2004 and mother Rose in 2010. Visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Bizub-Parker Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Little Falls. A private funeral service and burial will be held on Monday, Jan. 23. My condolences to Christa & her family.
I grew up with my cousin Johnny. My husband at the time was Bestman at John & Barb's wedding. We spend a lot of time with them & other cousins at that time of our life. The family in the early years were all very close. My mother & Johnny's mom were sisters & we were always at their home in Wayne visiting. We also spend time together at our grandparents farm in PA. Those days were very special & we looked back on them a lot in our recent conversations. I will miss talking with him. He missed his wife Barb. very much, they are now back together. RIP my sweet cousin.

On behalf of the Gentile family, this was a complete shock. John was always nice to us and especially to our boys when he gave them a giant box filled with hockey and baseball cards when they were little. They never forgot that. We will miss him and his kindness. Christa and Jerry, Alex and Josie, you are in our prayers during this difficult time.

John, you made working at Basking Ridge something to enjoy. Between you and Tommy you gave a needed welcome to the new guy (me). I'll always be thankful for that. Be at Peace.

John, We spent almost 50 years working and laughing together. Shared happy days and sad ones; sitting across from each other at work and at the park west diner, someday we'll do that again. Now You'll get great seats at all the Ranger games. Rest, enjoy, and watch over us.
