It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of John S. Gonzalez (Tata), who left us on May 1, 2024. Born November 24, 1931 in Sonora AZ.  John lived Alamogordo NM most of his life, before moving to Las Vegas NV with his daughter in 2018.  John also affectionately known as "Kid", built a life characterized by love, dedication, and resilience.  Predeceased by his wife, Susie Gonzalez of 60 years and grandson Johnny Gonzalez, his parents and siblings  John leaves behind a legacy filled with warmth, positivity, and commitment to family.

John is survived by his loving children; daughters Angie (Marion) Bigas and Diana (Leo) Estrada, and sons Johnny, David, Steve and Jerome Gonzalez.  Grandchildren, Daniel (Elena) Johnathan, Mikie and Marja (Noel Perez) Bigas, Candice, Celeste and  Preston Gonzalez, David Gonzalez, Ginger (Gordon)Titus, Regina Estrada, Emily and Tiffany Gonzalez, as well as numerous great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and long time friends.  Each of them carries forward his deep love for family and friends, which was always radiantly visible, especially when surrounded by his grandchildren, whom he adored. Seeing the face of his grandchildren brought on the greatest joy and smiles.

A man of strong work ethic, attending college to become a counselor at a mental health clinic after serving 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, was his greatest accomplishments, as it allowed him to use his caring nature and empathy to help others. His life underscored the importance of responsibilities and obligations, a legacy he instilled in his children.

Outside of his professional and family life, John was a man of simple pleasures. He enjoyed home-cooked Mexican food, playing his guitar and listening to Jazz. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Lakers. His favorite way to unwind was watching sports and going to the sports book for dog races.  John was a musician, a self taught guitarist at a very young age, often playing with his brothers, who were also musicians.  Early in his military career, he played in military bands at officers and enlisted clubs.  Known for his love for walking, it was his favorite way to stay active.

The church doors of St James the Apostle Catholic Church will open for John's funeral service on May 10, 2024, at 1:00PM. Prior to this, a viewing will be held at Davis Funeral Home Rainbow at 5:30 PM-7:30 on May 9, 2024 1401 S. Rainbow Blvd. We invite all who knew and loved him to join us in celebrating his life and bidding him a loving farewell.  Services are pending for his hometown in Alamogordo NM.

John was a quiet man, speaking volumes with his actions rather than words. His profound love for his family and friends and steadfast commitment to his responsibilities made him respected in his hometown community and within his family circle. His legacy, one of love, resilience, and loyalty, will continue to inspire and guide us. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
