John (J.T.) Gregg, 72, of Olathe, KS died at home on March 30, 2024. He was born on the family farm in Xenia, KS in 1951 to Archie and Alberta Carter Gregg. He was one of eight children. John attended Uniontown High School in Bourbon County, KS before being drafted into the United States Army where he served in Panama during the Vietnam War. Upon discharge, he moved to Olathe where he began his 45-year career with King Radio (Honeywell), retiring in March 2019.
John met his wife, best friend and life-long companion, Rhonda at King Radio in 1974. They were married in February of 1976 and had Melissa Dawn in December of 1976. John Michael was born in January 1979. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family through the years. He worked third shift so he could mow yards and do various handyman jobs for many widows and older couples in the afternoons.
He was a beloved grandfather to Tristan, Keaton, Cameron, Kindrik, Karsten, and Jacob. There were many afternoons you'd see him pulling dandelions in the yard with a couple grandkids in tow.
John will always be remembered for his fierce loyalty to those he loved. His ornery sense of humor will go unmatched. While no one is perfect, he was the perfect father and grandfather for us. His best advice was "if you want me to be proud of you, learn from my mistakes."
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Arch, Earl, Bob, and Clyde. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and sisters Hazel, Venita and Donna.
John was cremated and his remains will be laid to rest in West Plains, Missouri.
