John Franklin Guthrie, Jr., 81 of Paragon, Indiana passed away on July 8, 2025, at his home.

John was born on his father's birthday, July 28, 1943, in Gary, Indiana to John Franklin Guthrie and Lillian Leoria (Patton) Tilley. He was raised in Marshall, Illinois and graduated from Marshall High School. He went on to study electronics at Devry Technical Institute in Chicago, IL. His career in electronics included working on the very first VCR's. John left the field of electronics and founded Hy-Grade Insulation and Drywall in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was well-known throughout the homebuilding community in Terre Haute, retiring in 2014. John was also a member of the Eminence Masonic Lodge.

John married: Sherrilyn (Combs) Guthrie on March 13, 1965, in Chicago, Illinois. They have made their home in rural Morgan County for the past 53 years. He enjoyed woodworking and constructed the family home. He also loved the lake on their property, fishing and tinkering with most anything. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it.

In addition to his wife, Sherrilyn, survivors include daughter Rhonda (husband David) Andersen of Quincy, Indiana, son Clinton Todd Guthrie (wife Trudy) of Crawfordsville, Indiana, brother Harold "Dee" Guthrie of Marshall, Illinois, sisters Jackie Harvey (husband George) of Iowa and Donna Worrall of Ontario, Canada, and brother-in-law George Nunziato of Illinois.

Also surviving are grandchildren: Breegan Andersen-Gulley (husband, Trent), Will Andersen (wife Emma), Allison Guthrie, and Megan Moore (husband Trey), and great grandchildren Kallie and Bowie Andersen, and Autumn and Aurora Moore, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Jimmy and Ray Tilley, Vonna Nelson and Marilyn Spears.

In honoring his wishes, his earthly remains will be cremated, and his family will host a celebration of life open house at their home, 2231 N. Wakeland Rd., Paragon, IN, on Saturday, July 26 from 2-6 p.m.

John was a good friend. We had some good times together. He will be missed even though we didn't see each other very often in later years. Jon was one of my High school class mates.
