I spent the last 79 years knowing a good friend. We graduated school together at Farmersburg. He was a great basketball player! Bob had a great sense of humor, but he could be serious too. He was so smart! The best memory I have is singing Happy Birthday to him and also Carol. We would end with a prayer. But one thing I will really miss is Bob and Carol singing to me on my Birthday. Bob was generous also, there were times he just had to pay me back for things I would do for our class reunion. I have lost a great friend, but Heaven has gained a great man. Rest in Peace Bob. You fought a real hard fight, you will be missed by so many but none more than your sweet wife Carol.

As his former biology student at George Washington High School, class of 70, I remember Mr. Gurchiek as one of my best teachers. He encouraged me to pursue my interest in healthcare and nursing, which has spanned over 50 good years. He engaged us as students and communicated his interest in our success. Mr Gurchiek helped us to believe in ourselves. I remember that he planned to become a dentist. My condolences to his family and friends. He excelled as a high school teacher.

Reading the obituary today I fondly remember Bob while he was student at IU dental school. I was one of his patients, he put in a 'gold foil ' in my mouth in a cavity area. Fifty years later it's still in there. I lost track of Bob as I moved away from this area for a while.
