John M. Hartwell, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at the age of 70. He was the beloved husband of Marie E. (Budden) Hartwell, with whom he shared 42 years of marriage.
He was born in Cambridge on January 31, 1955, and the son of the late Mary E. (Quinlan) and Robert E. Hartwell. Prior to retiring he worked as an operating engineer for the Harvard University for 46 years.
John was a kind and happy man who liked to fish and hunt, enjoying the peacefulness and beauty of nature while creating permanent memories with his children, grandchildren, family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Marie, John is survived and will be deeply missed by his two children, Lindsey Campbell and her husband, William of Westford and John Hartwell, Jr. and his wife, Krystal of Deering, NH; his seven grandkids, Hailey, Jackson, Brayden, Michael, Carter, Grace and Vincent; his sister, Patricia Hartwell of Pepperell; his brother, Steve Hartwell of Hudson, MA; as well as many other extended family and friends. He was the brother of the late Robert Hartwell of Bedford, MA.
Relatives and friends are invited to John’s Celebration of Life on Thursday, September 4, 2025 from 4 until 7 PM at the WESTFORD HEALY FUNERAL HOME, 57 N Main Street, Westford. His funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, September 5th at 12 NOON in the funeral home. Burial will be held privately.
The nightly ceremony in Washington, D.C. will be dedicated in honor of your loved one on the day of your choosing.
