Beverly F. Hartwell, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, teacher, devoted community member, and talented artisan, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025 at the age of 98 in Brentwood, TN.
Born October 27, 1926 in Yonkers, NY, she was the daughter of the late Harold Mitchell and Gladys Mae Walker. Beverly's life was marked by a deep commitment to education, creativity, and service. She earned her undergraduate degree from New York University and later a Master's degree from SUNY New Paltz.
In 1948, she married Howard Cole Hartwell, with whom she shared over six decades of love and partnership until his passing in 2010. Beverly and Howard raised their family in Mahopac, NY where she dedicated her career to teaching English, French, and Spanish in the Mahopac public school system. Beverly inspired countless students with her passion for language, culture, and lifelong learning.
Upon her retirement in 1980, Beverly embraced life in Florida. She actively pursued new learning opportunities such as floral design, and received awards for her beautiful and unique arrangements. The gardens and landscape of all of her homes were lush and inviting. Her artistic talent also extended to a wide variety of crafts, which she pursued with imagination and joy.
Deeply committed to her faith, Beverly became an active member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Punta Gorda, Florida. She served with enthusiasm and grace, assuming a leadership role with the Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Florida. Upon her move to Madisonville, Kentucky in 2005, she was welcomed into the family of St. Mary's Episcopal Church. In her final years, she worshipped with the parishioners at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Brentwood, TN.
Her light continued to shine when she made her final move to Tennessee. Beverly was extremely active at the Heritage of Brentwood. She sang with the Glee Club, practiced Tai Chi, received multiple fitness awards, organized tours to showcase her amazing pineapple plants, joined craft activities, and participated in countless card and mahjong games.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Scott and Lynn Hartwell of Mahopac, NY; Kim and John Hunt of Franklin, TN; and Robin and Bob Rosic of Littleton, CO. Beverly also leaves behind six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, each a testament to her enduring legacy of commitment, resilience, and creativity.
