John "Tib" W. Thibodeau, a cherished soul renowned for his handy skills and kind demeanor, passed away on July 13, 2025, in Somers, NY, at the age of 88. Born on June 11, 1937, in Mt. Kisco, NY, to his late parents John and Phoebe (Ackerly) Thibodeau, John lived a life marked by dedication, love, and melody.
A graduate of Pleasantville High School, John's work ethic was evident early on in his life. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to proudly own and operate Tib's Texaco in Carmel, NY, which became a community cornerstone under his meticulous care. Even after hanging up his hat at the station, John's mechanical prowess continued to serve the community through his tenure with Brewster Tire, where he spent many years ensuring safe travels for countless patrons.
Music coursed through John's veins as rhythmically as life itself. A passionate banjo player, he spent joyous years plucking strings and tapping feet with the "Riverbank Banjo Band". His love for bluegrass music was an infectious force that brought smiles and foot tapping to friends and strangers alike. Alongside melodies, John's culinary affections were no secret, particularly his sweet tooth, which was a delightful aspect of his foodie adventures.
Known for his boundless love for animals, John's home was never short of a furry companion, each cherished and loved as family. His kindred spirit extended to his cherished loved ones, including his late beloved wife, Barbara Thibodeau, the love of his life, with whom he now reunites.
He leaves a legacy enriched with love and memories to his adoring daughter Carrie (David); children from his first marriage, June, Rita, Debbie, and Susan; his treasured grandsons Christopher and Johnathan & great grandson CJ, among several grandchildren & great-grandchildren from his first marriage; and to countless friends whose lives he touched. His daughter, Wendy, also preceded John in death.
Today, we remember John as the kind of man who enhanced the lives of those around him simply by being himself-handy with tools and adept at forging enduring relationships. His absence is deeply felt, yet his presence will forever echo in the music he loved, the work he performed, and the hearts he touched.
As we bid farewell to John "Tib" W. Thibodeau, we carry forward the songs he played, the smiles he gifted, and the kindness he showered upon us all. His memory will remain as enduring as the turn of a wrench, as sweet as a bluegrass melody, and as comforting as the knowledge that we were loved by him.
Family and friends are welcome to gather for a Visitation to honor and celebrate Tib's life on Friday, July 18, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Cargain Funeral Homes, Inc., 418 Route 6 (GPS US-6),
