John "Travis" Hawkinson - February 4, 1980 - April 11, 2024
John Travis Hawkinson, 44, of Arkansas City, KS, died Thursday, April 11, in Arkansas City, KS.
Travis, as he was called by friends and family, was born in McPherson, KS, on February 4, 1980, to Warren and Phyllis Hawkinson, the youngest of four children. He grew up with his parents and sisters on their farm west of McPherson, where his parents still live.
Travis graduated from Inman High School in 1998, and then attended Hutchinson Community College where he graduated with his Associates degree in Computer Science. Travis worked in IT for HCC for a number of years and then began working for Ideatek out of Buhler, KS, where he was currently employed as a Fiber Engineer.
Travis married Maryann Chapman on Oct. 10, 2003, and they had two children Kelsey and Daniel. They later divorced and Travis married Piper Leigh of Arkansas City, KS on Dec. 10, 2021, where they lived together with their blended family.
Travis was loved by many people and his parents couldn't have asked for a better son. Anytime they needed help he was always there for them and was known by others for his generous heart and willingness to offer a helping hand. Before his dad retired from farming Travis helped his dad on the farm, especially during wheat harvest which they always enjoyed doing together.
Travis is preceded in death by his grandparents Art and Juanita Hawkinson of Marquette, KS, and Victor and Lucille Smyres of Hutchinson, KS. He is survived by his wife Piper and their family including Kelsey and Daniel Hawkinson, and Jess and Jack Bowling, all of Arkansas City, KS. His parents Warren and Phyllis of McPherson, KS, his sisters Lisa (Greg) Froese of Inman, KS, Heidi (Rachel) Hawkinson-Penny of Topeka, KS, and Sara (Ken) Adams of Jasper, MO, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Travis' memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church, in Arkansas City, KS, on Thursday April 18 at 11: 00 am, with a private family interment at Monitor Church of the Brethren, McPherson, KS, to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made out to FBC Arkansas City for either Travis' children or to be used for his wife Piper's cancer treatments.
The service will be live streamed at https://youtube.com/live/hv6oV-nVrpE?feature=share
