Obituary of John Wilcox Hayes
John Wilcox Hayes, age 75, of Joliet, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at home.
Born November 15, 1947 in Lahaina, Hawaii, he was the son of John Hackett and Jane Elizabeth (Wilcox) Hayes. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, from 1968 to 1971, serving in the Military Police.
John was an accomplished campaign manager for candidates seeking both state and federal elected offices, and also worked for the Republican National Committee.
An avid sports fan, he enjoyed all Chicago sports and was a fervent follower of the Indianapolis 500.
He is survived by his devoted son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Tara Hayes of Joliet; four adoring grandchildren, Chase, Owen, Charlotte and William; and a dear sister-in-law, Darla Hayes of Morris.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Robert "Bob" Hayes.
Graveside services for John W. Hayes will be held Friday, March 17, 2023 at 2:30 p.m., at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Road, Elwood, IL 60421. Military rites will be accorded by the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad and the United States Army. Family and friends are invited to meet at the cemetery Public Information Center at 2:15 p.m.
