John Paul Hayes, a longtime resident of Benicia, California, passed away peacefully at the age of 78. Born on March 14, 1947, John spent his early years living in the Oakland and San Leandro areas before settling in Benicia in 1976, where he made his home for nearly five decades.

John proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1968. Following his military service, he became a successful entrepreneur, owning and operating his own party equipment rental business for more than 20 years. His company, Patio Heaters R Us, was well known in the community and reflected John's strong work ethic and dedication to customer service.

A longtime and devoted member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church, John's faith was an important part of his life. He found great joy in hunting, fishing, traveling, and cheering on his beloved San Francisco 49ers. John was also a certified scuba diver and took pride in his Irish heritage. Above all else, he treasured time spent with his family, which was always at the center of his life.

John is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Lynne Hayes; his son, Jason Martin Hayes; his sister, Barbara Young; his niece, Christina Polony; and his great-nephew Max Polony and great-niece Josie Jane Polony.

Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Dominic's Church, with a Vigil Service to follow at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at St. Dominic's Catholic Church, followed by burial with military honors at St. Dominic's Cemetery.

John will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his service to his country, his strong faith, and the warmth and loyalty he shared with all who knew him.
