John Darrell Hearst

Pelahatchie, MS

John Darrell Hearst, 85, of Pelahatchie, passed away peacefully to be with his Lord on April 9, 2024.  Visitation will be 5-7pm Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS.  There will be a graveside service at 1pm Friday, April 12, 2024, at Quiet Ridge Cemetery in Pickens, MS of Holmes County.  

John was born in Yazoo City to Homer and Vida Blake Hearst on February 22, 1939.  After graduating from Benton High School, he served in the United States Army from March 1960, and was honorably discharged in February of 1966.  During this time, he was stationed in Kitzingen, Germany.

John married Billie Lou Ables on September 14, 1964.  He retired from the Southern Natural Gas Company after 26 years of service which included working at three different locations which were in Pickens, Mississippi and Franklinton, Louisiana and then Brandon, Mississippi.

John was a member of Thornhill Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Vida Blake Hearst, his wife Billie Ables Hearst, son Darrell Wayne Hearst, sister Janet Wright, brothers Hollis Hearst, Daniel Hearst, and Dalton Hearst.  He is survived by his daughters, Tish White (Timmy) and Tami Cordell, his grandchildren, Kaci White, John Thomas White, Ansley Cordell and John Hayes Cordell, siblings Rebetha Sapp of California and Arnold Hearst of Hazlehurst.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Thornhill Baptist Church in Pelahatchie, Mississippi.
