John Henry Hehs Jr. passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 13, 2025, in Burleson, Texas at the age of 87. He was born on September 29, 1938, in Cibolo, Texas to John Hehs Sr. and Ella (Zillmann) Hehs.
John proudly served in the United States Army and the National Guard. He dedicated 37 years of his life to his work at Southern Pacific Railroad. John’s life took a beautiful turn when he met Judith Marie Setzer. Together they blended their families into a household of seven after they both had been raising their young children on their own. What began with Judith renting a trailer from John and caring for his children grew into a lifelong partnership. John and Judith were married on March 20, 1971. They spent an extraordinary 49 years and 11 months together. John will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, and he took great pride in supporting his family through both the challenges and joys of life.
John also pursued personal interests such as bowling, where he was a member of the Germania Bowling Club, participating in various leagues over the years. Every summer, John ensured that his family experienced the joy of vacationing together, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
John is preceded in death by his wife, Judith Marie Hehs; son, Vernon Kelly Howton; parents, John and Ella Hehs, and his brother, Jerry Hehs. John is survived by his children, Jo Ann (Hehs) Wallace, Joseph Harold Hehs, Terryne Rhea Howton, and Anthony James Howton, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sisters, Katherine Belote and Betty Rowe.
Visitation will be held at Goetz Funeral Home in Seguin, Texas, on Thursday, December 18, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Goetz Funeral Home. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.
