John William Henderson

John William Henderson, RN, 69 of Roseburg, passed away Thursday, November 13 in Coos County, Oregon.
John was born in Lane County, to Gene and (Mary) Ann Henderson. John attended Willamette City Grade School and graduated from Oakridge High School.
John married Kathleen Hibner on May 12th, 1979, together they had two children; Tammy Soper and Paul Henderson while living in Oakridge.
John worked on a sheep farm in Junction City while in High School and then in the timber industry. He worked as a setter, pulled green chain, helped to build logging roads, was a forklift driver at the mill, ran head rig saw and was a saw filer. After several layoffs he attended the nursing program at Umpqua Community College, graduating with an Associate's degree, following up with a certification in surgical nursing. John ultimately settled in mental health nursing at the Veterans Hospital in Roseburg Oregon.
John was preceded in death by his sister Pam Hansen, his parents Mary Ann and Gene Henderson, and his grandson Carson Henderson. He is survived by his wife Kathleen Henderson, his daughter Tammy Soper (Ken Mulkey), Paul Henderson (Angelina Hall), his granddaughter Shayne Mulkey, his brother Don Henderson (Brenda Henderson), and countless family and friends.
John was an avid sportsman who loved the outdoors and truly enjoyed communing with nature. He loved animals, horses in particular, beginning with his childhood Shetland ponies, Whiskey and Buck. He was a playful soul who enjoyed music, anything with an engine, and loved to see the spark of joy in a child's face.
The graveside service will be held December 20th at 2pm at Forestvale cemetery at 48926 McFarland Rd, Oakridge, OR 97463
